Business Center Officially Dedicated

Dennis Russell, Friendsview’s executive director, expressed appreciation for all who gave funds and worked in other ways to make the Center possible. Newberg Community Foundation awarded $2,000 from the Homer Chamberlain Grant. Residents raised over 80% of the money through a fund raising concert and special donations. The Friendsview administration contributed funds as well as the finished room. George Fox University Plant Services gave permission for Friendsview’s carpenter club to use equipment and space to build the computer tables, storage cupboards, and a work counter. The George Fox University Information Technology department installed the internet service.

The Center was developed under the auspices of Friendsview’s technology and communication committee led by Quentin Nordyke. “In our community,” said Russell, “when residents see a need they step in to help meet that need. The Center grew beyond our original vision, but we’re glad.” It fits into Friendsview’s concept of offering life-long learning opportunities for residents. It also provides computers for employee training classes.

Equipment in the Center includes nine PC computers and 3 Macs, one laser printer that serves all the computers, a scanner, a projector mounted overhead, and a pull-down screen that enables instructors to show their computer screens to the class.

The Center is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. with individual help available at specified times.

Those attending the dedication included representatives from the Friendsview board of directors and administration, residents, and guests.
