FRC Exec. Director Selected for Faith-Based Commission

Friendsview Executive Director, Dennis RussellDennis Russell, executive director of Friendsview Retirement Community in Newberg, was recently selected to represent the western part of the United States on the Faith-Based Commission of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aged (AAHSA).

More than 5,700 member organizations in 47 states are associated with AAHSA, whose mission is to create the future of aging services and its driving business strategy of Quality First.

The Faith-Based Commission is charged with developing and recommending strategy and action plans consistent with the mission, vision, values, and plans of each participating organization with the goal of advancing the quality of life for people each organization serves and those who serve them.

Russell explains why he is eager to serve on the Faith-Based Commission: “As our industry and organizations continue to grow in size and complexity we expose a vulnerable underbelly which can place at risk the faith-based moorings of our respective ministries. The drift can cause us to forget the intent of our founders and separate us from needed accountability to those founding principles. I would like to spend the latter part of my professional life telling the stories, and providing resources to faith-based organizations seeking to remain grounded in the calling, mission and values that distinguish us in an increasingly complex and cynical world.”

According to Thomas Slemmer, AAHSA chairman, “Much of the advancement of AAHSA’s vision of healthy, affordable, ethical aging services for America and its Quality First agenda emanates from its commissions, committees, and task forces.”
