Certified Medication Aide

Duties include following physician orders, accurately pass medications and assist the charge nurse and CNAs as needed with light nursing care activities.

Essential Functions:

  • Adheres to Friendsview’s policies and procedures; including those covering privacy and security in compliance with HIPAA regulations, and codes of conduct.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respects residents privacy at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Gives medications and carries out treatments as ordered and in accordance with facility policies and procedures
  • Enters data accurately into electronic medical record system
  • Effectively communicates with residents, guests and staff using good interpersonal skills
  • Carries out person-centered care that protects residents rights including their right to refuse
  • Carries out infection control, standard and transmission-based precautions including utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    Observes and reports changes in residents
  • Monitors resident areas for safety hazards and carries out emergency procedures using good principles of body mechanics
  • Assists with other light nursing care activities as able and as assigned by charge nurse.

  • Attends and participates in orientation, training, educational activities, staff meetings and in-services as required
  • Follows all safety rules and requirements
  • Reports to charge nurse any suspected abuse, neglect and/or mistreatment of residents
  • Knows and follows Universal Precautions at all times
  • Responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situations
  • Monitors for environmental safety hazards
  • Records incidents, errors, or accidents
  • Assists with quality assurance programs when indicated
  • Assists in training new staff
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Works cooperatively as a team member maintaining positive working relationships with staff in all departments

Qualifications and Job Requirements:
Job Education, Licenses/Certifications, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Current license as CMA by Oregon State Board of Nursing.
  • Prefer at least one year experience as CMA
  • Mandatory continuing education provided at staff in-services to maintain licenses
  • English writing skills and basic computer knowledge for accurate documentation
  • Verbal English language skills adequate for job-related communication with residents and staff
  • Supervising (direct reports and level of supervision): no supervision, may assist in training new staff
  • Decision Making: General supervision and a set of broadly understood position expectations. Decision-making with limited discretion, latitude, or negotiation. Assistance or resources are readily available.
  • Interpersonal Skills/Interactions: Communication and interpersonal skills are important, and must be well refined.
  • Communicates regularly with employees, residents, family members, and medical professionals. At times, interactions with others are complex, and may be demanding or difficult.

  • Verbal English language skills adequate for effective communication with residents and staff.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work with and communicate with the elderly.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload and adjust priorities on short notice.
  • Must be capable of maintaining confidentiality of information at all times.

Additional Requirements/Preferences:

  • Must successfully pass the Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check and, if applicable, fingerprinting.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass the pre-employment reference checks.
  • Must be able to provide a copy of his/her own social security card for W-4 documentation.
  • Must be able to provide applicable documentation(s) for I-9 in order to establish identity and authorization to work in the US.
