Kathy Tri

Board Finance Committee Rep

Kathy was born in New York City and graduated from high school in 1964. She spent a year studying in Lugano, Switzerland before she went to Mt. Vernon Junior College in Washington, DC.  She then transferred to the University of Wisconsin where she earned a degree in Political Science in 1969.  After graduation, she moved to Washington DC where she worked for the Association of American Medical Colleges staffing their accreditation committee.

In 1972 she married Nick Tri and moved to Eugene, Oregon. Kathy earned her Master’s in Science degree from the University of Oregon, and then worked for the City of Springfield as Budget/Benefits Manager for four years.  In 1989 she became the City Finance Director of the City of Newberg.  Kathy was very active in her professional associations, GFOA, and the Oregon Municipal Finance Officers Assn (OMFOA) where she served on the Board of Directors and as President.  She received both the Public Service Award and Life Membership Award.  She has served on numerous statewide committees with the League of Oregon Cities, Oregon Local Government Investment Committee, and Oregon PERS.  Kathy retired in 2006 and continues to be active by serving on the Yamhill County Investment Committee.

Kathy is an active member of Newberg Kiwanis Club for over 25 years, serving in several leadership positions including treasurer, president twice, and chair of the annual golf scramble.  She was selected Kiwanian of the Year in 2011.  She’s been married to Nick for over 49 years, has two married children, and four grandchildren. She enjoys reading to kids, traveling (especially to Australia), gardening, and playing games.
