Nancy Woodward

Vice Chair

Nancy Woodward moved to Friendsview in 2015 with her husband Ron who died of cancer in 2020. Nancy wasn’t ready to retire from being a school librarian after the move to Friendsview. She worked for one year at a public school on the Eielson Air Force Base near North Pole, Alaska and another year at the American Overseas School of Rome in Italy. When Nancy returned to Friendsview life was not normal due to Ron’s illness and then the pandemic. But perhaps there is no normal when retired.

Nancy is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Spanish and has a Master’s degree in School Library from Portland State University. Her career as a school librarian allowed her to work in public schools in the Willamette Valley, at the International School of Kenya in Nairobi for five years and at the International School of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia for six years.

Nancy is an Iowa farm girl at heart. Her family still owns the century farm where she grew up in central Iowa. Her grandparents and parents were active members of the Bangor-Liberty Friends Church. Nancy cherishes her Quaker heritage. During their marriage of fifty years Ron served as pastor of Berkeley Friends, Newberg Friends and Silverton Friends churches. Their three children grew up in Newberg but now live and work in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Washington, DC, and Honolulu, Hawaii. That means Nancy has frequent reasons to travel.

Nancy was elected to serve on the Newberg Public School board in May of 2023. Her term was for two years. She served as the board Chair the first year she was on the school board. She is currently a board member for the Newberg Public LIbrary Foundation. Nancy considers it an honor and a significant responsibility to serve as an officer on Friendsview Resident Council.
